If too much injury occurs, the neuron will nor survive: secondary injuries is very problematic, may be caused by oxygen not meeting the brain, possible injuries, swelling, haemorrhage. Ischemia: blockage of blood flow, neurochemical changes/toxicity, seizures, loss of consciousness, loc, disruption of consciousness, posttraumatic amnesia (pta) Tbi: lasting effects (sequelae: tbi may be, focal: Tbi: recovery: spontaneous recovery, most occurs in first 12 months after injury, some further recovery can occur after that time. If mild, most people make full recovery without intervention. In typical development, 2 cerebral hemispheres are specialised at birth: remain flexible for a while. Iq/cognition: personality (coping style, psychopathology (do they have substance abuse?, family/social support, employer/school support, financial circumstances. Second impact syndrome: rare, fatal, second concussion whilst still recovering from the first injury, has to be a medical decision whether that person can return back to sports.
