PSYC2213 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Epigenetics
Document Summary
Need to know about typical development to understand atypical development and somewhat vice versa. Development is in uenced by a multitude of variables. Development arises from a dynamic interplay between these factors. Development = sequences of changes over a lifespan. In childhood, changes are evident in almost every aspect of development (motor, social, emotional, cognitive). Development is usually positive progress in childhood but are some exceptions (correctly use past tenses but then later may use goed instead of went bc learning rules to change things into past tense u add ed). In adulthood, some areas may be mirror-image of childhood (info processing), some decline, stable, advance. How do nature and nurture shape development. Genes and environmental both interact and contribute to development. Epigenetics - study of how environ in uences expression of genes. Piagets constructivist position - children acquire knowledge through self discovery by environ interaction.
