OTHY202 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Mechanical Advantage, Human Factors And Ergonomics, Occupational Rehabilitation
Document Summary
Week 2 applied anthropometry & biomechanics, posture and seating/ universal design. Anthropometry the study of the measurement of the human body to understand and design for human variations. Body segment size, proportions (length, width, circumference) Measurements of dimensions of human form and mass without body movement. Accuracy of measurement determined by: subject"s posture, clothing, method determined by research, gender, ethnicity, age. Centres its measurements on functional distances when the body is in motion or engaged in a physical activity. Measurement such as: body motions, strength capabilities, use of time and reaction time. Use it for custom design (specific needs) Design for general population (consider a wide range) *majority population fits in the bell curve, but some are in 5th percentile and 95th percentile and must be considered. *average typical type does not represent the majority. Used when considering designing different pieces of equipment for the population. Data can be used to custom design for those with specific needs.
