Week 7 introduction to hazard identification and risk management. Define manual handling and the need for hazard identification and risk management. The process of recognising situations that have the potential to cause harm to people or property, and the act of doing something to prevent the hazardous situation occurring or the person being harmed. Hazard identification first step to assess risk and take action. Risk management prevent hazardous situation and harm to people. Builds knowledge and understanding about hazards and risks that have been identified to that informed decisions can be taken about controlling them. Generic cover all common tasks carried out within an area. Individual carried where individuals have specific or complex needs which fall outside of generic protocols. Consultation: speak to people, ask worker, employers etc. Review available information: previous incident reports, injury statistics. Observe manual tasks: analyse the job and job task analysis -> identify specific risks. Work practices: training, adequate staff number, work hours, breaks.
