PHTY101 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Pronator Teres Muscle, Brachialis Muscle, Brachioradialis
Document Summary
Pronate on spot: ulna has to extend and abduct at elbow: anconeus causes the extension and abduction, called a conjunct movement: happens as a result of other movement. Insertion is closer to a joint: origin closer to a joint, better at stabilising. Low speed and load: use spurt muscle. Increased speed and/ or load: use spurt muscle and recruit shunt muscle to increase joint stability. Recruit monokinetic first: crosses a single joint, brachialis is go to muscle: crosses elbow and produces flexion. Recruit polykinetic muscles as need for force increases: may cross more than one joint, used when speed or load are increased, biceps is go to muscle, however need to synergise to cancel out shoulder flexion and supination. Recruit shunt muscles as load and/ or speed increase: when adding load or speed, need to think about keeping elbow joint close together. Elbow flexion, forearm in mid positon, antigravity but no additional load.
