Document Summary

Itch histamines detected by chemoreceptors located in the skin. Group iv afferents < most warm receptors. Proprioception: our sense of posture and movement in space and forces being generated. Proprioceptors located in joints (capsule and ligaments), muscles, tendons, skin, and inner ear (position of head). Sense of posture: we know the angles of joints. Sense of movement: if someone moves your arm, you know the direction and velocity of the movement. Sense of force: we know something about forces generated by muscles, for example we can compare weights of objects held in the hand. Joint receptors: ruffini-like endings associated with group ii afferent fibres signal the degree of joint capsule and ligament tension central nervous system interprets this information and understands joint angle. Muscle receptors: golgi tendon organs and muscle spindles associated with group i afferent fibres contribute to proprioception. Somatosensation: sensory information from the skin and musculoskeletal systems.
