Unlikely to disclose sexual history with current partner. Memory for general health: medical centre visits. N = 329; recall visits in last 12 months. N = 1500 hospitalised in last year. Not necessarily any better for sexual health: diary studies. Ask people to make report soon after event: decrease retrospective recall, elicit more details. E. g. coxon: n = 74 men who identified as gay, diary of sexual experiences for 1 month, day later: retrospective questionnaire, retrospective report higher for all sexual encounters. E. g. ramjee, weber , and morar: n = 79 female sex workers in south africa, diary of each sexual experience, weekly retrospective questionnaire, retrospective report lower for all sexual encounters, condom use, number of partners. Challenges: time between diary and recall, completion bias, rehearsal effect, self-monitoring effect.
