WEEK THREE: PATIENT PARTICIPATION AND EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION.
• Define therapeutic communication and patient participation;
• Partnership: a group of two or more orgs working collaboratively to pursue and achieve common
goals and objectives. Partnership between patient and healthcare professionals; dignity and
respect, collaboration, support choices; interaction clinics and patient and is critical and a pre-req
• Communication: a two-way exchange of information through writing, speaking or another
medium. Therapeutic communication; promotes trust, empowers, provides understanding.
• Describe the key attributes of effective, patient-safe communication;
• Explore the relationship between communication and patient safety;

communication between sender/receiver and impacts message retention.
- Pay attention to non-verbal cues esp eye contact, shuffling or choice clothing.
• Understand social, cultural, and workplace settings.
• Receiving message correctly depends on listening, reading comprehension and perceiving
abilities.
