CPD: means by which health professionals maintain, improve and broaden their knowledge,
expertise and competency and develop the personal and professional qualities required
throughout their professional lives.
- Improve, maintain and broaden scope.
- Committed to maintaining life-long learning.
- Opportunistic to develop learning; mandatory or voluntary.
Nurses: Required to assess practices with relevant competencies.
- Reflection, review against standards, identify knowledge gaps, match CPD
education, learning needs, learning goals and CPD goals accordingly.
For CPD to be relevant to APRAH you must be gaining new knowledge; CPD is not
negotiable: nurses cannot simply attend seminars and have CPD completed, must be
learning NEW knowledge (cannot claim CPD for job).
Difference between skill maintenance and learning new knowledge/skill: APRAH will say may
be counted on CPD hours.
