Attachment relationships: as most significant relationships people have are thought to have the most profound affects on peoples well being. Attachment relationships: fulfil our basic needs for love, comfort, care and security; attachment figures broaden and build skills and positive emotions experienced. Bonds with attachment figures affects: calibration of attachment system, ability to cope with distress, ability to regulate emotions, ability to deal with grief and loss. More than human bonding, but of coping, distress and emotion regulation. Theory examines: coping, affect regulation, mental health and psychopathology. Attachment system and the regulation of emotions. The goal of the attachment system is to maintain felt security. When felt security is violated (threat) basic emotions are activated by attachment-experiences.
