HSN305 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Global Acute Malnutrition, Indirect Calorimetry, Goitre
Document Summary
All practical data must be submitted on roughly 5th august. Quizzes will cover content from the lectures, module readings, and further prescribed readings. Good because they are easy, capture a larger time period than a 24 hour recall. Disadvantages are errors in reporting, either intentional or accidental. Nutritional assessment can be defined as the interpretation of information from dietary, laboratory, anthropometric and clinical studies. Nutritional assessment systems can take one of four forms: surveys, surveillance, screening, or interventions: Cross-sectional nutrition surveys: collate data on the nutritional status of a population at one point in time. They may also allow for the efficacy of nutritional intervention programs by collected data before and after for comparison. The characteristic feature of surveillance is the continuous monitoring of selected population groups. Surveillance studies therefore differ from nutrition surveys because the data are collected, analysed and utilised over an extended period of time.
