Document Summary
Motivation is an internal state that instigates directs and maintains behaviour (mcinerney) Motivation is the driving desire behind all action and is the precursor and foundation for learning, motivation refers to processes that channel, energise and sustain behaviour over time. Traits: (influence an individuals behaviour in terms of direction - choice of activities, intensity - amount of effort and persistence - duration of effort. traits demonstrate consistency across situation and over time) States: (are energising - activates behaviour, directive - guides behaviour towards satisfying one goal) Extrinsic (refers to our tendency to perform activities for known external rewards, whether they be tangible or psychological. Intrinsic: (refers to motivation to engage in an activity for its own sake, intrinsically motivated to work on tasks because you find them enjoyable) Situational motivation (occurs when aspects of immediate environment enhance motivation to learn particular things or behave in particular ways)
