Explicit Cognition
Unconscious influences that influence a person’s behaviour even though they have no
concisions awareness of those influences
E.g. playing a new video game
Implicit Cognition
Cognition outside of conscious awareness / second nature
E.g. memory knowledge or perception: Recognising emotion on someone’s face
Analytical Decision Making
Decision making is the selection of a procedure to weigh alternatives and find a solution to a
problem.
E.g. deciding whether to come to uni or play video games
Intuitive Decision Making
Instincts, going with gut feeling
E.g. saying yes to getting another drink / not really thinking about it
Thinking, Fast and Slow
System 1: operates automatically and quickly with little or no effort and no sense of
voluntary control
- Fast
System 2: Allocates attention to the effort mental activates that demand it, including
complex compulations.
