Document Summary

16th of may 2018: lecture 9 biomechanics of. Joins bones with fibrous joint capsule that is continuous with the periosteum of the joined bones. The synovial cavity is filled with synovial fluid. The joint capsule is made up of an outer layer, the articular capsule = keeps bones together structurally and an inner layer, synovial membrane = seals in the synovial fluid. It is composed of specialised connective tissue that lines the inner surface of capsules of synovial joints and tendon sheath. It makes direct contact with the synovial fluid lubricant. Pivot: cross section of cartilage, confined compression test of cartilage: The cartilage is placed in a impervious container = no fluid can move horizontally and only upwards and vertically. A porous plate is placed on the top of the cartilage to allow material to only flow out of the top. The displacement of the cartilage is measured over time.
