Key questions: the politicisation of a sexuality, key arguments of lesbian. Lesbian feminism was/is an active political movement emerging in the late 1960s and most influential in the 1970s and the 1980s. Emerged following with second wave feminism (perhaps justifiably). Betty friedan - a influential liberal feminist - referred to lesbians as the lavender menace ; Influenced by gay rights movements at the time (i. e. like black feminism ws influenced by the civil rights movement of the time) Closely tied to radical feminism (although not all radical feminists ere/are lesbians) The push was for women to direct their energies into relationships with other women rather than men. The movement argued that lesbianism was a natural extension of feminist politics. Ti-grace atkinson: feminism is the theory, lesbianism is the practice . We do think all feminists can and should be political lesbians. Our definition of a political lesbian isa woman - identified women who does not fuck men.
