Document Summary
Horses highly stylised horse tattoo - which we can still recognise. Overlapping receptive fields = responsible for identifying image, composition & orientation. Each receptive field = small inputs, but we see image as smooth continuum. Brain translates small inputs (close together) = as smooth line, inputs that similar but further apart. Hypercolumns in v1 - denser when nearer to central of field, less in the peripheral. Identify relationship between neighbouring & interactive fields. Topography of contextual modulations mediated by short-range interactions in pvc (das. a & Aligned v1 receptive fields = positive interaction. Perpendicular (orthogonal) v1 receptive fields negatively intact. Smooth continuity and abrupt changes = the end of one thing and the beginning of another. Nature isn"t made out of straight lines. Any given point in space; fine and broad change.
