Use of voices - psycho acoustics less pronounced. There is a difference between the sound and the sound source. Music and its others - noise, sound, silence. Gave composers access to the entire field of sound - john cage. 1948 - concert of noises , recordings of train whistles, pots, pans, etc. Challenge: our ability to use language to analyse and describe the different types of noise. Jouissance - enjoyment with an aspect of pain or displeasure e. g. some enjoy a glass of wine at the end of the day, and some drink a whole bottle without enjoying it - it is just a must. Other rejection, avoidance, can relate to the rejection of race/sex important in terms of psychology, sociology. Noise was used as a vehicle for ecstasy and transcendence. Drone-based minimalists, noise bands : noise as disturbance, distraction and threat.
