Determinants of mental health: social, psychological, biological factors, socio-economic pressures (poverty, low levels of education, rapid social change, social exclusion, risk of violence, physical ill-health, human rights violations, personality and psychological characteristics, genetic factors. Changing landscape of child and adolescent mental health: longer adolescence (more stress on life paths and what to be in society?, demand on higher education = more stress. Increased demands on adolescents (more pressure on successful academic achievements: social media = more accessible/easily exposed to treatment/bullying. Predictors of child and adolescent mental health disorders. Research 1: prematurity, parent mental health, attachment and child development. Very preterm birth: high survival rates, medical complications, long term developmental issues, also at risk of parental psychological distress, attachment issues, infant social and emotional difficulties. Impact on parents and family: fear, separation from infant, violated expectations, shock, confusion, disruption to routine, guilt, financial pressure, helplessness.
