Document Summary
All motor control theories attempt to explain how we control coordination and reduce the degrees of freedom problem. Different theories of motor control reflect different philosophies about how the brain controls movement. Motor control theories are more than just an approach for explaining action. They stress different aspects of the organization of the underlying neurophysiology and neuroanatomy of that action. Value of theory to practice: our therapy actions and prescription of exercise/delivery of coaching and teaching are based on assumptions that are derived from theories. Support base for effective instruction or intervention. Theories of motor learning and control focus on explaining. Why people perform skills as they do. Yes - provides the (cid:862)why(cid:863) basis for what practitioners do. Degrees of freedom problem producing a complex movement pattern: degrees of freedom (df) =number of independent elements in a system and the ways each element can interact, multiple ways to perform a movement to achieve the same goal.
