BCMB20002 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Histidine, Trypsin, Gene Duplication
Document Summary
All figures from lecture 6 slides of p. gooley, melbourne university, march 2017 (unless stated otherwise) Tertiary: describes the fold of a protein chain; the arrangement of secondary structure within the folded protein. Quaternary: the arrangement of two or more protein subunits (terry mulhern). Fibrous proteins: polypeptides in long strands or sheets. Structural proteins with functions of support, defining shape and protection. Globular proteins: folded into globular or roughly spherical shapes. Function as enzymes and in cellular control (regulation). Integral membrane proteins: function as receptors and transporters. (paul gleeson) Large particles, such as ribosomes, were useful to find through the cryoelect. All known structures solved and published are then deposited into the protein data bank (pdb) Structures can be viewed in pymol, etc. after the written code can be found on pdb. What they can look like once viewed in pymol: 2 layered beta-sheet and 1 helix protein. Arrow head points towards main chain beta strand.
