The bond between god and man broken, restored by jesus in his ministry. Salvation story: humanity and divinity of christ: knowledge of his humanity increased in this time period. Jesus understood humanity and was therefore relatable: trinity. Bible: highest authority and source: not allowed to be translated into any vernacular language, therefore average person couldn"t access it: heretics: anyone who believed that the bible should be accessible was regarded as a heretic. Sacraments are essential: baptism crucial to entering into christianity. Death was unpredictable, so one should always keep their souls spiritually ready. The ultimate aim is heaven, but that is mostly for the saints. Most people die with minor sins they haven"t confessed, or haven"t done all their penance. Therefore most people end up in purgatory, where they get rid of sins and then finally go to heaven. People on earth can help people in purgatory by praying for them, doing penance for them or pilgrimages for them.
