Geometrical thinking - it is recommended that you also read these chapters. You should have achieved the following learning outcomes: --be familiar with the van hiele theoretical framework through which to view students" geometrical thinking. --recognise that shapes can be distinguished through their geometric properties. --identification of effective methods for teaching geometric thinking and concepts in the primary grades. Measurement and geometry are presented together to emphasise their relationship to each other, enhancing their practical relevance. Students develop an increasingly sophisticated understanding of size, shape, relative position and movement of two dimensional figures in the plane and three dimensional objects in space (acara, 2015) ---learning geometry involves learning about our world and then extending ideas to abstract relationships and concepts.
