Understand the topographical arrangement of organs in the abdomen. Understand the major blood supply and venous drainage of abdominal organs. Understand that abdominal organs belong to the digestive, urinary, lymphoid and endocrine systems. Which abdominal region- that an organ may be. Muscle is protecting the organs in the abdomen spine fibres opposite directions for strength- integrity. Transversus abdominus- fibres were in a transverse plane- hence horizontal fibres- give protection. The small intestine- bound to the transverse colon and the transverse mesocolon and the abdominal wall organs organs- Ileum attaches to the large intestine: receives chyme from the stomach but also secretions from liver and pancreas- enters the digestive tract, made up of duodenum, jejunum, ileum. Cecum: blind pouch in the lower right abdominal quadrant inferior to ileocecal valve. Attached to its lower end- the appendix- densely populated with lymphocytes and is a significant source of immune cells. Colon: part of large intestine between the ileocecal junction and rectum.
