Document Summary
List the 12 cranial nerves by name and number. Identify where each cranial nerve originates and terminates. Location of nerve cell bodies: olfactory epithelium (olfactory cells) Cranial exit: foramina in cribiform plate of ethmoid bone. Main actions: smell from nasal mucose of roof of each nasal cavity and superior sides of nasal spetum and superior concha. General functional types of fibres: special sensory only. Location of nerve cell bodes: retina (ganglion cells) Motor: ciliary muscles, sphincter pupillae, all extrinsic muslces of eye except those for cn iv and vi, enters the midbrain (mesencephalon) and emerges the midbrain, general functional types: motor only, general distribution: intraocular and four extraocular muscles. Location of nerve cell bodes: midbrain: cranial exit: superior orbital fissure, main actions: motor to superior rectus. Interior rectus, medial rectus, inferior oblique, and levator palpebrae superioris muscles; raises superior eyelidl turns eyeball superiorly, inferiorly and medially.
