Document Summary

The dark (or hidden) figure of crime is a term employed by criminologists and sociologists to describe the amount of unreported or undiscovered crime. The victim feels the police will not be able to do anything about it. The victim feels the police will not be willing to do anything about it: They may feel the police will not be interested; They may feel the police won"t believe them; They may feel the police are simply too busy. The matter is too embarrassing, or is compromising in some other way. The victim is too scared to report it. Police may think that the reported crime isn"t serious enough to report. Police may not pursue it, due to the extra work (cuffing). Not enough evidence to say the crime was true. Police can judge if it has already been resolved. Weatherburn, d.
