Document Summary
Statistical significance- a p value of 0. 338 can occur simply by chance. A p value would tell me that, p= probability. A correlation can be squared to yield the co efficient of determination. The co efficient of determination represents the proportion of variance in the dv accounted for by the iv. When multiplied by 100 the co efficient of determination shows the percentage of the variance accounted for. Population- the collection of units to which we want to generalise a set of findings. Sample- a smaller collection of units from a population used to determine truths about the population. In practice we only have time and resources to analyse data from the sample not the population. Samples- the smaller the sample the less confidence we have in the accuracy of results. Represents the chance of misinterpreting the results to find an effect when in fact there is no effect at all.
