In the current article, Carla Rice is talking about the concern of western women
towards their body. Main projection of this paper is based on four aspects which include body,
weight, skin tone or complexion, hair, and size of breast. These are main four areas with which
women of these days are mainly concerned. In today’s world, whether women belong from
eastern culture or western culture, they are recognized by their body and skin complexion.
Therefore, they are worried about their shape and complexion. To sustain in this world and
drag attention of other, women are focusing on their bodies. Culture of western projects
women in society in such a way that need to concentrate on their beauty than intelligence. Self-
worth of women is based on their body.
The author also highlights that women with heavy weight are considered as fun
element; on the other hand, women with attractive figure are praised by individuals. There is
no regard for their intelligence in society. From the survey, Carla Rice has mentioned in her
study that women aged between 20s and 50s are spending most of their time in purchasing
beauty products to enhance their complexion and they are inventing most of their earning in
maintaining their personal appearance for their psychological and emotional well being (Rice,
2013). Even while advertising these products, marketing managers are putting stress on the fact
that if they use those products “men will go crazy”.
In addition, these advertisements are also playing with emotions of women and they are
projecting that women can able to achieve anything by fair complexion, healthy hair and
attractive figure. They do not even need talent to show, actual talent lies in their body. In real
these all insult talent of women and it seems that only fair women can be glamorous, women
with dusky complexion cannot. Lots of people thought that advertisements and magazines with
pretty models were meant for men eyes but as we explore more we see that only man but
