PSYC 228 Lecture Notes - Lecture 30: Identity Formation
Document Summary
W30: highs are higher, lows are lower. Nothing feels as good as it does when you"re in adolescents: not more emotionally disturbed. Most have good relationships with parents, take only reasonable risks, etc. Family relationships matter: do they have good attachment, can they talk to their parents when they need help, do they monitor them in a good way, this can be cyclical. Are there things to do for the adolescent: things to do keep them busy. What type of school are they in: schools where kids need most help sometimes have worst teachers/resources. Depends on executive function/brain development: some evidence that kids who are young are able to inhibit are better off in terms of inhibition when they hit adolescents. Those who take risks in positive ways: taking risks in new activates such as through music. Parents matter: allowing autonomy, secure attachment. Explicitly encourage each other: encourage you to do positive/negative activities.
