He felt all mental illnesses were forms of hysteria, saw it as a disease suffered by both genders not just women. A commonplace form of therapy in this period of the late 19th century and he made it a center piece of his sanatorium. His patients displayed anatomically incorrect bodies, they were imaginary bodies. The body responded to certain stimuli in ways that bodies should not respond. The bodies had peculiar body images, and he would perceive infront of audiences to treat them with hypnosis. A part of the regimen at the sanatorium was to take pictures of the hysterical patients and the very strange poses and things they did. Saw that all mental illness is theatrical and this sticks into freud"s brain and we sees this when he describes how people develop sexually and relates it to theater. The analyst asked a question and the patient could answer anything that comes to mind, don"t censor anything, don"t revise.
