Comparison between jameson and frye: compare the different levels of frye and jameson"s interpretations, frye has a dialectical method as well as jameson. He interpreted hamlet as a multi- level process. Frye"s allegorical method does have multiple levels as well. Jameson - he starts small as well then works to ever larger contexts like history. 1st concentric framework - the text as a socially symbolic act used to create an imaginary solution . Jameson a text or narrative invents imaginary solutions to social contradictions. A real social contradiction finds an imaginary solution. Jameson suggests that literature does not reflect real social contradictions but provides them with an imaginary solution. The imaginary solution takes the place of a real social solution. Dreams provide an imaginary solution for sexual frustration. To find a real social solution, you need to find the real social contradiction as a literary critic you need to know the history.
