Focus on the complexity and integrity of pre-colonial igbo life and turmoil resulting from british rule. Isn"t just what happens in a story: it"s how what happens is represented. What to look for in the analysis of narrative. The structure its self (conventional, tragic, linear etc) The narrator: the narrative voice and position (tfa; 3rd person) Context (for the writing of the story; for circulation) Good for anyone to understand, get where the characters are coming from. Is not just to see what happenes ina story but to see what the story is about and how what happens is structured. Rising action: okonkwo, umiofia, the issionaries and the clash of civilizations (igbo and britian cultures clash) and the climax/plateau- okonkwo is banished. Falling action: seven years in exile in mother"s homeland. Gets a new beginning in part 2 ( most important in book [treatment of women]) Sent to mother land to be protected and comforted.
