Keep in mind: sometimes it"s hard to distinguish b/w attitude & motivation & there is no general agreement about definitions of terms. Stern (1983): 3 types of attitudes: attitudes toward community & ppl who speak l2 (i. e. , group-specific attitudes, attitudes toward learning language concerned, attitudes toward languages & language learning in general. Attitudes can be influenced by learner"s types of personality, i. e. , ethnocentric or authoritarian, or by social milieu in which learning takes place.
