Builder, teacher, theorist and one of the greatest eighteenth century architects. In boullee"s lifetime he was famous for the design of the elegant hotel de brunoy along the. Today he is recognized for having produced more than one hundred beautiful drawings of the ideal public buildings completed on a large format and created illustrations on the theoretical essay on the art of architecture. Boullee explored through writings and designs the importance of an architecture of pure forms intended to stimulate feelings. Similar to the work of jean jacques rousseau on man"s underlying nature and origins of society. His fundamentals of architectural form and of aesthetic feelings have a universal value not limited to their time. Born in paris (louis-claude boullee- father and architect, marie louis boucher-mother and celebrated painter) Boulle"s life was dominated by a passionate desire to be a painter, but his father obliged him to become an architect.
