Lafitau"s cultural history of shelter quickly went beyond that: certain shelters such as tree huts that were essentially human nests" served well for their purposes for inhabitants to be safe from floods, predators, enemies and pests. This became labelled as a half natural, half artificial dwelling, a state of savagery, only being a step above nature: it was among more sedimentary people peoples that the building of huts became more regular practice.
