Freedom and beauty in the handmade thing (wed sep 26) Ruskin argues that with the civilized" invention of division of labour we have not divided the labour but the men divided into mere segements of men. This way of working, breaking down each piece of a product into different tasks, strips man of his intelligence and degrades them. They have no pleasure in their work, the produce. Their spirits are broken and this new division did not liberate the men but in fact enslaved them to meaningless tasks that bear no sacrifice or passion only misery. Ruskin argues that products be created with meaning again.
