Different shapes can create beauty (art is not static) Art can help people perceive/manipulate/grapple reality (different interpretations of reality) Art challenges us to think and rethink our world and ourselves. Prehistory includes all of human existence before the emergence of writing, carving objects, painting images, and creating shelters. Prehistoric art provides clues to help understand culture and human life. Our conclusions/interpretations are all hypothesis making prehistoric art one of the most speculative/dynamic areas in art history. Anthropologists agree that homo sapiens appeared 400,000 years ago. Homo sapiens sapiens (us) appeared 120,000 years ago. Stone age is divided into 2 sections; paleolithic and neolithic. Paleo old, neo new, ithic stone. Paleolithic was divided into 3 phases reflecting the positions of objects found in layers of excavation.
