The grand tour helped renew interest in classical aniquity. Ancient greece and especially ancient rome were understood as models of social and poliical organizaion: liberty, civic virtue, morality, self-sacriice. Applicaion of greek and roman aestheics and social organizaion to contemporary socieies.
