But he also believed that the gothic design was cheaper to execute than the classical design. It was decided they would hold an international competition. The architects who won the competition were a rm: Darling and curry (1880) legislative buildings for the province of ontario. The design took on a high victorian, gothic approach. At the end of the day, no tenders were called because the cost was a lot more than the threshold set by the government.
