Pevsner and banham both wrote about the modern movement, as it was going on. A historian who is chronicling things that are happening at the time. History is a self-conscious practice- happens in the present and makes sense of the past. Similarly, for your assignment, you are writing about the writing about history. Ends with gropius because he is demonstrating this with a school. It is not just the look that seems to be inline with the machine age, but there is also an ethical element to it. At this time people believed that design could be morally uplifting; it could change your life. After wwi people trying to rebuilt, make sense of themselves. Not just something that looks good but has a good message.
