Document Summary

Metabolism is the totality of the organisms chemical reactions. The metabolic rate is the measure of energy that is used and is regulated by enzymes. The metabolic pathway involves the stepwise modifications that are regulated my enzymes. The catabolic pathways release energy by breaking down complex molecules (cellular respiration) The anabolic pathway consume energy to build complex molecules (photosynthesis) Energy is the capacity to cause change or to perform work. Kinetic energy is the energy of motion and potential energy is the energy that matter possesses due to the location or structure. The laws that energy transformations in organisms is the thermodynamics. The first law is that energy in the universe is constant and second law is energy conversions increase the disorder of the universe. Sun sustains life by providing light which gets energy and living things build complex molecules from simple work to generate heat and local increases in order.
