Document Summary

All living organisms are composed of matter. An element can"t be broken down into more substances. The four elements that make up 96% of the weight in most organisms are: oxygen, A compound is a stubstance with two or more different elements with a ratio. An atom is the smallest unit of life and consists of electrons, protons, and neutrons. Isotopes are an element that have the same number of protons but different number of neutrons. Electrons are directly involved in chemical activity. They are kept in the electron shells which are the energy levels. Covalent bonds are the strongest bonds in which two atoms share one or more electron on the outer shell to stabilize themselves. Nonpolar covalent bonds are when molecules pull towards each atom and they are equal in the sense of the same electronegativity. If there are different electronegativity"s the bond would be considered a polar covalent bond.
