Document Summary

Suction traps have enzymes in the beginning but as they age they have bacteria. Some shade plants have leaves with large surface area to gather more light (ex. round leaf orchid: these leaves are also parallel to the ground to gather the most light. They are flat and thin therefore saving energy when producing them. This also allows the sunlight to reach the photosynthetic cells more quickly. This increases the amount of light gathered. Bunchberry leaves are attached to a shared rhizome (a steam that lies flat) This growth is called clonal or colonial growth: another way to beat the shade is to grow away from it and towards the light (phototropism: plants that change their growth due to light conditions) If a plant grows towards the shade its called phototropic. If it grows towards the light its called positive phototropism: another way to beat the shade is to climb on top of the competition.
