BIOL 1902 Lecture Notes - Lecture 17: Trillium Grandiflorum, Phototropism, Autotroph
Document Summary
Lecture 20: most plants are autotrophic, there are carnivorous plants, sundew leaves are adhesive traps, when an insect touches it closes and enzymes dissolve it, pitcher plants= have hairs on their leaves and are curved inwards. The insects go down easily, but when they go down they are dissolved into soup. Their traps are called: pitfall traps: bladderwords are also carnivorous, they are in the water, their underwater leaves are suction traps, they have modified leaves that are sensitive to touch and go over a little empty (cid:862)(cid:448)a(cid:272)uu(cid:373)(cid:863) (cid:271)u(cid:271)(cid:271)le. Lack of sunlight= shade: how to plants get by, some shade plants have leaves with large surface area. Their leaves are also parallel to the ground. Positive phototropism= towards light, negative phototropism= away from it: climb atop the competition: wild cucumbers, tendrils are thigmotropic= touch.
