For some animals they lay the eggs in the right habitat and there is no care afterwards (ex. Effort can be finding a location with the right conditions: ex. Smooth green snakes lay eggs under logs: monarch butterflies lay eggs on milkweed plants, for parasitoids the right host must be located, eggs of most amphibian, reptiles and insects are not guarded. Walking sticks eggs end up underground but they aren"t placed their: the eggs have a capitulum cap that is food for ants which bring the eggs underground. Northern water and garter snakes hold eggs internally until they hatch: when an animal holds the eggs internally it is called ovoviviparity, the eggs are not nourished, the young are not guarded. Other female animals guard eggs: five lined skinks lay their eggs near large rocks with thin soil on top, red backed salamanders also guard their eggs. They lay their eggs inside moist rotting logs: female wolf spiders carry their eggs.
