First few chapters are extremely important in the book. Total number of species of flora and fauna in one area= biodiversity. Biodiversity: biological diversity: total number and variety of living things (flora and fauna) found in an area, ontario"s biodiversity, reptiles and amphibians aka herptiles aka herps. Around 50 species: fish, there is around 154 species in ontario, mammals. Snow shoe hare, black bears etc. around 84 species: birds. 490 species of birds in ontario: invertebrates. (insects) odonates- damselflies and dragonflies. They eat other dragonflies around 172 species of dragon and damselflies. Total # of invertebrates= tens of thousands. Rocks are made of minerals that affect the nutrient supply of the soil chemistry. The rock under any given area is called: bedrock. Sedimentary rock is formed from sediments or other rocks. Most limestone has a lot of calcium (calcium carbonate) and is soft and basic in ph. Breaks easily, which gives calcium to soil around it.
