BUSI 2204 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Denim, Water Use
Document Summary
Recently while shopping for new jeans, i came across levi"s new collection of jeans made with significantly less water as a way of going green . Levi"s waterless jeans myself, what surprised me was the amount of water each pair is made with in contrast to the average pair of jeans. The waterless collection uses as little as 1 litre to make the jeans, as opposed to 42 litres. Because the majority of the water footprint associated with denim is from cotton cultivation and consumers repeatedly washing of their jeans, this has encouraged companies, such as levi"s, to find innovative and water efficient manufacturing techniques. As a result, levi"s introduced the waterless jeans, reducing water consumption used to make each pair and at the same time, encouraging consumers to wash them less.
