It is important to know something about the culture of the people whose remains you are excavating. The methods used and the questions asked vary greatly depending on what kind of culture we are looking at. Page 178 four-fold classification of societies developed by elmund service: Sites generally include campsites, kill sites, and work sites. Examples: a possible caribou kill site at the bottom of lake huron, head-smashed-in. Generally farm plants and animals and only move for grazing purposes. Characterized by differences in social status between people. Determined by how closely related people are to the chief. Vary in size from 5,000 to 20,000.
