Document Summary
Hms investigator: underwater archaeological survey (2010 & 2011) Sir john franklin and his crew left england in 1845 to find the northwest passage. They got stuck in pack ice from 1846 to 1848, and then abandoned their ship. The crown posted a reward for anyone who would rescue franklin. In 1848, captain ross took the enterprise and the investigator to find franklin and his crew. He was unsuccessful and returned to england in 1849. Captains collinson and mcclure took out the ships again in 1850. They went around cape horn and got separated. Collinson and the enterprise decided to overwinter in hong kong, but mcclure and the investigator overwintered while stuck in the ice near baring (banks) island. They intended to return home the following year, but got stuck in the ice again. Fortunately, they ran into the crews of the hms resolute and intrepid. They finally got back to england on yet another ship.
