This new social order is perpetuated by dominant ideologies which reflect the view of those in power, the bourgeoisie. For freud what lies under the surface is that modern life creates rules and norms for people to live together. Those norms get in the way of an individual"s impulsive behavviour namely those having to do with sex and violence. These feelings and instincts become repressed and embedded deep in the unconscious. They only reveal themselves in certain actions, especially dreams. One accesses the unconscious through psychoanalysis a process involving talking, listening, writing, and interpreting responses. More importantly, what lies beneath. This is a historical process which will end in the future with a collapse of the system and. Notice the themes: loss, frustration, malaise, alienation, loneliness, powerlessness.
