Afraid of scarecrows as a child- interesting he made the scarecrow one of the most sympathetic characters in the novel, presenting it in a reassuring way for children. Very practical- packs food for journey, puts on a clean dress and silver shoes, etc. Shoes fit her perfectly- sign that it"s meant for her, not being asked to step into shoes that are too big for her. She"s in munchkin land in chapter 3- describes beautiful fences, colourful fields full of food, they"re good farmers, people bowing as she walks by for destroying the wicked witch. Houses are round, blue is the favourite colour of the munchkins. Oz as an enhanced version of kansas- rural landscape but good crops, would be her home if kansas wasn"t in a drought.
